| Name: | Jeremie Belpois (OU) |
|---|
Character: Jeremie Belpois
Series/Fandom: Code: Lyoko
Original or Alternate: OU
Age: 13
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Sexuality: Heterosexual, though he would never consider anyone other than Aelita
Appearance: Jeremie is 142 cm tall (about 4’8”) and weighs 30.8 kg (about 68 lbs), so he is somewhat skinny. His blond hair is cut somewhat short, with well-kept bangs other than a cowlick that hangs down in front. His dark colored eyes are always hidden behind a pair of thick, round, black glasses. This French boy can often be seen wearing a light blue turtle neck shirt, as well as khaki-colored slacks.
Personality: As your average middle school genius, Jeremie has a fairly serious nature, especially when it comes to his work with the super computer. He is rather shy around people he doesn’t know, and he can be quite awkward around girls at times, but he is fiercely loyal to his friends. Said loyalty occasionally leads into him being a little bit overprotective, and his leadership position in the group sometimes causes him to refuse to allow them to do something that could potentially be beneficial simply because he believes it to be too risky.
Abilities/Strengths: Jeremie is gifted with great intelligence, especially when it comes to computers. He is especially skilled at writing computer programs, building robots and hacking into places where he doesn’t belong, though he only does that last one when he recognizes a dire need to do so (well, usually anyway). He is also the one who first discovered the super computer and knows how to use it best out of anyone else in the group; he often takes a leadership role among them, coordinating the efforts to stop XANA from the computer terminal. Some of his various accomplishments in computer programming include the creation of virtual vehicles and a materialization program for the other members of the group, as well as an artificial intelligence that was, in fact, too powerful for its own good.
Weapons: Jeremie uses no physical weapons, although if he got his hands on some, he knows how to use various tools used for building robots. They could, in theory, hurt…
Weaknesses: Being the one who usually moniters things from the super computer, Jeremie does not have much experience on Lyoko itself – in fact, he is somewhat nervous as to the thought of setting foot there, and has only done so three times, in cases of dire need. Consequently, he is not very agile or athletic, and he has not built up the same resistances to XANA that the others have. He has, of course, recognized his fear, and he has very low self-confidence, considering himself not as useful to the team as a whole because of it. This becomes increasingly apparent the more time Aelita spends on Earth, because with two people who can work the super computer, he feels less and less helpful to everyone. Because of this, Jeremie sometimes leaps into things before he even considers looking at the possible consequences, all for the slight hope that it might help his friends.
History: It all began one day when Jeremie was exploring an abandoned factory near Kadic Junior High, the boarding school he attended, in an attempt to scrounge up some parts for some robots he planned to build. He somehow managed to find his way down to the basement of said factory, where he discovered a de-activated super computer. And, of course, he turned it on, forever linking his fate to the artificial intelligence living within.
Jeremie was immediately intrigued (and enchanted) by the elf-girl-like AI, who he temporarily named Maya because she did not remember anything about herself, and decided to help her learn more about Lyoko, the world that she lived in. However, it turned out that Maya was not the only resident of Lyoko; a malignant program named XANA also lived there, and it made its presence known by infecting various electronic objects around Kadic and causing them to attack Jeremie. Eventually, Jeremie accepted the aid of three other students at Kadic – Odd Della Robia, Ulrich Stern, and Yumi Ishiyama – and used a set of scanners at the factory to virtualize them into Lyoko to protect Maya while she de-activated the tower that XANA was using to cause chaos. (At this tower, she discovered that her real name was Aelita.)
Of course, Jeremie does not remember the first time his three friends were virtualized, as he had not yet been scanned by the super computer when he figured out how to activate another of the computer’s functions: a time reset, which brought everyone back in time to before XANA began attacking without any recollection of the attack unless they had been scanned by the computer. He went back and scanned himself that night, however, to prevent that from occurring once again.
Every step of the way, Jeremie could have potentially gotten rid of XANA by shutting the super computer back down, but he refused to do so. First, he wanted to materialize Aelita into the human world, and he made completing that program of top priority over the next year or so, with the promise that he would shut down the super computer after it was complete. During this time, XANA would launch more than twenty attacks on the human world, possessing various objects ranging from stuffed teddy bears to laser satellites to even clouds of laughing gas. During this time, while the others were often virtualized to defend Aelita, who could not defend herself, Jeremie only set foot on Lyoko twice: the first time was because he felt guilty about a fight that had occurred between himself and Aelita and he wanted to appologize in person, while the second time was to save Odd, Ulrich and Yumi from the clutches of XANA when he trapped them in a world parallel to Lyoko.
Eventually, Jeremie did manage to complete the program necessary to materialize Aelita into the human world, but it appeared to have a flaw in it: something had bound Aelita to XANA, so that if the super computer was shut down, Aelita’s body would cease to function. If this lasted for too long, she would die. So, they were forced to allow the super computer to continue running while Jeremie searched for an anti-virus, for it was assumed that XANA had implanted a bug in Aelita’s code.
Over the next year, Aelita came to live on Earth as a boarder at Kadic, posing as Odd’s cousin, while Jeremie continued to look for an anti-virus. Jeremie managed to create several vehicles for everyone to use on Lyoko, and a new, fifth area was discovered: Carthage, the core of Lyoko where XANA’s very data was kept.
It was eventually discovered that with every return trip to the past, the super computer – and, therefore, XANA – would grow even stronger, and eventually the program became so powerful that it was even able to possess human victims. Jeremie was the second target for this particular tactic, and afterward, in order to build up resistance to further attacks, Jeremie did spend one training session on Lyoko. He subsequently swore that he would never go there again, and no one except Odd and Ulrich know what he looks like there: they described him as “ridiculous”.
Meanwhile, the longer Aelita spent on Earth, the more she began having odd cases of déjà vu. These were especially apparent around an old hermitage near Kadic, former home of Franz Hopper, a former science teacher at the Junior High. He was discovered to have been the person who created Lyoko in the first place, and Jeremie hoped to de-code his diary in order to learn how to create the anti-virus.
At the same time, there was a new threat on Lyoko itself – whenever XANA attacked, Aelita had to go de-activate the tower from which the program drew its strength, but XANA now had a creature known as a Schipazoa lying in wait. Its aim was to corner Aelita, wrap its tentacles around her head, and drain her data from her, though exactly what data and for what was not known at the beginning.
Eventually, it was discovered that Aelita was not and had never been an artificial intelligence; she was Franz Hopper’s biological daughter, and she had been virtualized alongside her father in order to escape government officials that wanted to interfere with his research. And, at the same time, it was revealed that XANA had not, in fact, infected Aelita with a virus (meaning that Jeremie’s attempts had bore little fruit), but instead taken away key portions of her memory. While attempting to locate and retrieve them, the Schipazoa attacked once again, and with everyone else de-virtualized, Aelita was at its mercy.
Jeremie felt so useless, only able to watch as the Schipazoa slowly drained away Aelita’s memory, but just as the memory counter was about to tick down to zero, he was hit with a sharp headache and saw a flash of bright light.
